Ideajuice Studios Storms Moviestorm
by CodeWarrior Carling on Mar.01, 2010, under Machinima, News
Ideajuice Studios today made quite an impression over at Moviestorm with our first submission produced entirely with Moviestorm. What started out as a series of exercises and tests to learn how to use the tool turned into an exercise in trying to tell a story visually without any dialog. Along the way, we picked up another tool we’ve been dying to try out – Sonic Fire Pro – and used it to create a dramatically appropriate, but admittedly unrefined score.
This is not something we would usually try to put out as a finished work, but we wanted to show some of our friends how quickly things could be accomplished with the tool, so we decided to put it out there as is. We also thought it would be a good time to set up our Moviestorm account and channel etc. so we posted it on Moviestorm without really expecting much ado.
But when we checked our account, we found some messages about our post and took a look at the comments page on the moviestorm site:
First off.. there was a comment from the Moviestorm people themselves. “Great stuff – we made this a featured movie” . WOW! A featured movie is a movie that will play when you run the moviestorm application at home. While you are deciding what to do, it will show a half a dozen thumbnails of movies you can click on to play. Featured movies show up in other places on their website as well, and we noticed that they even wrote up a facebook comment about us “A Dish Served Hot, is an action movie with no words, but great camerawork & editing”
The Moviestorm community has been very warm in welcoming us with their comments. We have already recieved more comments from them with one submission than in all the time we’ve been on blip.tv . We can’t wait to work with this tool some more and see what we can do when we aren’t just playing around.
Excerpt from Little Wooden Boy and the Little Jewish Genie
by CodeWarrior Carling on Jan.24, 2010, under Comedy, Machinima
An excerpt from Little Wooden Boy and the Little Jewish Genie for viewing by the audience at a conference that was held in Second Life on Saturday Jan 23, 2010. If you are viewing this on my blog, don’t watch this excerpt – watch the full length version a couple of posts earlier.
The conference was organized by Phaylen Fairchild and among the attendees were representatives from the William Morris talent agency and several other media companies. The focus of the conference was to discuss and explore ways in which machinima and virtual worlds could be used by traditional media concerns to produce content.
CodeWarrior Carling of Ideajuice Studios was one of the panel members along with Chantal HArvey, Pooky Amsterdam and Rosco Teardrop. The conference ran for approximately 2 1/2 hours, well over what was anticipated, largely due to a very strong interest by the audience in a Q&A session that took place after the formal part of the conference was over.
Asterknot Traning Pogram
by CodeWarrior Carling on Nov.16, 2009, under 48 Hour Films, Comedy, Machinima
This is Ideajuice Studios entry in the 2009 48 Hour Film Project (machinima edition).
This years team consisted of just CodeWarrior Carling and Evie Fairchild. The genre we were assigned was science fiction, and all teams were required to use a book as a prop, feature a character named Bobbi Stuart who was a baker, and to use the line of dialog “are you sure about that?”.
We successfully submitted our film on time, and were judged to be the film that made the best use of the line of dialog. We used avatars from many different places, and were granted permission by Madcow Cosmos to use a wonderful set of objects he made for our ‘Asterknot Traning’ facility.
Featuring aliens, children, dogs, kittens, cupcakes and fresh baked bread, we hope you enjoy watching this as much as we enjoyed making it.
Little Wooden Boy & the Little Jewish Genie
by CodeWarrior Carling on Sep.23, 2009, under Comedy, Machinima
A video produced completely with iClone and featuring voice acting by several prominent Second Life personalities. Pooky Amsterdam plays the voice of the Genie, Thundergas Menges plays the voice of the orc, and CodeWarrior Carling plays the remaining parts.
The musical score was written by Evie Fairchild using Sonic Fire Pro. iClone and Crazy Talk work as well as video editing was done by CodeWarrrior Carling.
This is by far Ideajuice Studios most popular machinima to date, and a sequel is already being planned.

Burns and Allen
by CodeWarrior Carling on Aug.28, 2009, under Comedy, Machinima
An iClone video using voices from two great Second Life actors, Kayden Oconnell and MadameThespian Underhill. They perform an awesome version of the famous ‘Whos on First, Whats on Second” skit made famous by Abbot and Costello, but using the voices and personas of George Burns and Gracie Allen in their heyday.
Avatars were generated in iClone by CodeWarrior Carling using the stock avatars and sliders.
After She Sings
by CodeWarrior Carling on Aug.24, 2009, under Machinima, Performance Art
A 3D art object created by ‘3D Soup’ and exhibited in Black Swan Gallery, one of the Rezzable sims.
This object really needs to be experienced in Virtual Reality to be appreciated. The subtlety of the texturing and the matching of individual pieces is exquisite.
The piece is constructed of 55 prims, all sculpties from the look of it.
Vaneeesa Blaylock 07 – I Advance Masked
by CodeWarrior Carling on Aug.22, 2009, under Machinima, Performance Art
Vaneeesa Blaylock is a well known performance artist whose installations focus on the theme of identity. Virtual worlds allow her to explore this theme through the use of avatars in ways that would be difficult or impossible in real life.
This is a short film of her seventh in the series (VB07). “I Advance Masked” was presented on August 15, 2009 in the Ancient Greek Ruins build in Petruchio region in SL, and during the two hour performance drew over 100 visitors.

NCI (New Citizens Incorporated) is a great organization in Second Life that helps new citizens learn their way around. They helped me plenty in my early days.
Happy Birthday NCI! What a great party you threw…

Two very dear friends of mine partnered in VR about a year ago, and I had the honor of filming their wedding.
Although my role was simply to send the footage to Chantal for editing, I couldn’t resist putting this together.
Happy Anniversary you two!
Managers Theory Reconstructed
by CodeWarrior Carling on Dec.07, 2008, under 48 Hour Films, Comedy, Machinima
This machinima was created as an entry for a local film festival – the 48 hour challenge. Similar to a 48 hour film project film, the goal here was to use three phrases in the film.
I made my film about the making of the film. The three phrases I had to use can be seen by watching the video.
Beach Ball Bingo – 48 HFP Entry Extended Cut
by CodeWarrior Carling on Nov.22, 2008, under 48 Hour Films, Machinima
Our assigned genre was thriller/suspense, and ironically we had a lot of real life suspense along the way. We got our film uploaded a scant five minutes before the dealine. A tension filled cast and crew exploded in joy when the successful upload was announced in group chat, only to crash into despair a few minutes later on learning that because of an issue with the film format our entry would be disqualified.
However, the next day, we learned from the contest sponsors that they would allow our entry to be submitted for judging, and the suspensful, thrill filled weekend of movie making mayhem turned out to have a happy ending after all.
We’re thinking of making a thriller/suspense movie about a team of people who have to make a movie in 48 hours….

This was the original build of Ideajuice Studios in Second Life. Then one day, the Lindens noticed that there was water on the mainland, and the next day the water was gone.

Thanks for visiting our blog. We won’t be posting often, but we hope when we do post something you find it entertaining and useful.
Ideajuice Studios is a very small company created by CodeWarrior Carling, an avatar in the Second Life® virtual world, to produce and publish machima made there and with other emerging tools such as iClone, DX Studio and Moviestorm.
Machinima are videos made using game engines or other virtual reality applications by recording the players actions in real time and then editing the resulting footage using normal techniques that apply to any other video.
You can view many of the machinima produced by Ideajuice Studios on other parts of our site. These blogs are more of a place for us to share our thoughts on other things we think will be of interest to our friends and fans.
